English text
The moments won’t wait for us darling,
They haste them untimely away;
Their footsteps are echoless ever,
As after each other they stray.
By and by when we cross the dark river,
To the land that we dream is so fair;
We can tarry forever, my darling,
The moments won’t trouble us there.
’Tis true, there are bright sunny mornings,
When dew drops do brighten each flower,
Whose suns are ne’er clouded with shadows,
But glorious and beauteous each hour.
The moments are hastening, darling,
To hide them away in the past;
They stretch out their arms toward the ages,
Are lost and forgotten at last.
They’re bearing us with them my darling,
On unwearied wings far away,
Their watchword forever is ONWARD,
Nor tarry they e’er by the way.
