English text
The trees have loosed their fan of leaves,
They pass in golden streams,
And deck with many coloured sheaves
This autumn world of dreams.
The sun with silver haze o’er-spread,
Breaks forth in wild surprise,
To strike a glory from the dead,
And fire earth’s closing eyes.
The pine trees feel the sacred hour,
Each stem so straight and bare,
Receives a grandeur that has power,
To mix in nature’s prayer.
The smallest spot on earth unseals
Some path by angels trod;
And every fading flower reveals
The unchanging face of God.
